Intentions

The intention, genesis and ongoing journey of MAUM.

Isaac Chang

So here’s what’s on my mind.

Our days are full of hustle and hurry, but we still find ourselves lacking. More than ever there’s waves of information and talking heads out there that are telling us how we can better, that taking more care of our minds and our bodies is important.  All of it can be illuminating but also paralyzing.

But what if in our pursuit of these things, on their own, in their separate spaces we’re missing the point? Why do we all still feel unwell and hollow no matter how many reps you do at the gym or grind at work or find a tribe or even just letting ourselves go completely? What if discovering the ways the core parts of our lives overlap and being more intentional with practices that pull them closer together, is where we find what we’ve all been looking for?  MORE LIFE?

I’m Isaac Chang.  I’m a husband, a dad and a neighbor. I found myself in a season asking these questions after trying things my way and it not quite measuring up.  My life felt like it was a constant catch up game of showing up as fragmented versions of myself and my intentions.  Feeling stressed, tired and unhealthy, grinding it out on the corporate turnstile, then doing my best to show up as a present husband to my wife, a good dad to my children at home, and leaving whatever was left for my neighbor.  It often left me feeling like I was becoming less of myself than more of what I could give.  Why did I feel like there’s something missing? I think some of you can relate.

This podcast seeks to set a table and bring conversations over them, to inspire us to better examine the interior and exteriors of our lives in the way that hearing voices from real people only can.  Like I said, there’s a lot of voices out there, nothing is new under the sun.  The difference here is we’ll be diving deep through the noise and reaching after our heart and intentions: that simplicity and nuance of the hidden things beneath the surface.

So, we’ll focus on the seams between what connects the best versions of our minds and bodies, but then leaning into how that intersects with the roots of the often neglected soul, getting real with our intentions, so that we can discover MORE LIFE: or how to live lives that are not only enough but overflowing and spilling over.

We’ll talk with the doers and the thinkers, the healers and spiritual shepherds, neighbors and dads just trying to figure it out.  We’ll talk about things like what we eat and how we live, what we focus our minds toward, fatherhood, spirituality, meaning, and the everyday stuff in between —  led with curiosity; leaving room for mystery; facing what’s uncomfortable; seeking what’s true; honest, unhurried and unpolished.

My gut tells me that through dialogue around these topics we can open up ourselves to being more fearless, clearer and authentic versions of who we are.  We can grow and express ourselves uniquely and meaningfully, the way it should be – not in spurts, but sustained and full.  Let’s see where we go.  I hope you’ll come along for the ride.

This is my intention.

This is MAUM.
